- Synopsis
- The second national tour of Rent, sometimes
referred to as the Hollywood Cast because of TV icons Neil Patrick Harris and Wilson Cruz
is my hometown cast. This tour isn't just glamour, people are generally surprised at
the talent and genuine heart in this cast. The veteran cast member was D'Monroe, who
waited at the Life Cafe while in the Angel Tour and then switched over to the landlord
upon joining this tour. The most notable thing about the Benny Tour to me is the
intricate harmonies in What You Own (also come creepy lighting during that song that
pisses Jacki off). When the harmonizing is done correctly it's magic. When you
have an understudy, it's usually really sloppy. In my opinion, Benny tour Maureens
are generally good. I like em all. Leigh, Anika, Hallie etc. Also, home
to my arguably favorite Joanne, Kenna Ramsey (wow!) and MY ALL TIME FAVORITE BENNY
PERIOD, D'Monroe. Unlike most productions, where the Roger is flooded with
attention, Mark (NPH) is considered the star and was nominated for all the awards and
such. Christian Mena, being ethnic, opens way for incredible swings such as Owen who
can manage to play both Angel and Roger. Julia Santana (Mimi) is the only original
Mimi to still be playing her role in the states. This tour has played the role of a
training grounds for many Rogers (Cary and Adrian) to go onto other tours, or countries.
NPH's departure brought about some problems b/c of some bad chemistry. And
now, the sudden and swift leave of D'Monroe, MLJ, Andy Senor, Adrian and Jasmine the fans
have had to deal with some terrible blows. However to alleviate the pain, Christian
Mena returned, the OBennyC Roger is returning, and I for one smile at the thought. I imagine Julia and Christian's chemistry should be
reknown by now. (November 28, 1999). Cary who some new Benny Company fans
regard as entirely new, and the truly new Saycon Sengbloh are
the Benny Company's Roger and Mimi. Dwayne Clark of the Angels teams with a favorite of the fans Pierrre Bayuga and
they made a pretty good duo audio wise. Australian Maureen, Michelle Smith
joined aside from Bright Lights Big City's Jacqueline B. Arnold's
Joanne. they replaced Cristina Fadale and Danielle Lee Greaves.
Scott Hunt leaves early 2000 and the dynamics of the company will change
more.
